Not Amsterdam or Rotterdam, Hilversum brings Johnny Hates Jazz back in Holland. Last friday Podium De Vorstin was the Magic Music place.
400 tickets where sold at the time that support act Bottles Of Love impressed at 20:30 with their 35 minutes of Poprock, starts with “Baby You’re All That I Want” that made me think “is this not too much Rock for JHJ-fans?”. I think it was the full package of great songs and a great performance with singer Willem Jonker as a fantastic humoristic presenter that makes the almost empty room into a party place.
They did all their Singles from the first “Get These Men Out Of Here” til the last “Keep Your Head Up”, a great cover of “Boys Of Summer” (Don Henley) and the unknown song “25”.
For all the people that enters the evening around 9 PM, you have really really missed something (check http://www.bottlesoflove.com for a second chance) that is going to be huge and listen to their Album “Hush” for more!
After an 11 minute break (Mike Nocito explains after the show: we were well prepared during the soundcheck), Clark Datchler, Mike Nocito and their band came on stage to make the crowd go wild with their “Heart Of Gold”.
You felt the guys love to perform and the audience (which seems to be much more than 400 in the meanwhile) where dancing and singing like we are still living in the eighties with lots of tracks of the first Album “Turn Back The Clock” (“Shattered Dreams”, “Heart Of Gold”, “Turn Back The Clock”, “Don’t Say It’s Love”, “I Don’t Wanna Be A Hero”, “Listen”, “Don’t Let It End This Way” and “Me And My Foolish Heart”), even with the tracks “You Belong To You”, “Man With No Name” and the Singles “Magnetized” and “Lighthouse” of the Album “Magnetized”.
Clark Datchler released some Solo material, like for instance the Album “Fishing For Souls” (1992), he explains that the song of that Album “Broken Spirit” was suppossed to be a Johnny Hates Jazz Single and that is the reason why it is on the setlist during JHJ-concerts.
Recently Chris Cornell (Soundgarden & Audioslave) passed away and Clark talks about all those big names, but give a tribute to Maurice White .This is Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”.
Clark Datchler has lived in Amsterdam for many years ago and did the concert for “mijn mooie Nederlanders” (my beautiful dutchies) in his dutch designed bonding (not bondage!) Scotch & Soda jacket. Learned dutch with an old-fashioned book and is familar with the Dutch singers “Lee Towers” and “Henk Wijngaard”. This is Clark his cover of Wijngaard his Trucksong “Met De Vlam In De Pijp”.
After the concert there was a meet and greet with Mike & Clark (NOT for 250 euro like other UK acts ;-)) and in case you think the fans waited for an hour…. they only waits a minute for their signature, talk or KODAK-moment!
I really recommend Johnny Hates Jazz and gladly this was not their final concert. Check them out at http://johnnyhatesjazz.com/ for the tourlist including Villa Marina, Isle Of Man and festivals like Mello Festival, Lytham Festival and 80s VS 90s.

Hush – Bottles Of Love
Lots of (bottles of) love to Sylvia Bell Music Management, Clark Datchler, Mike Nocito, Bottles Of Love and Podium De Vorstin for giving their MAGIC.
At “De Nieuwe Anita” Monique Klemann presents her “COOOL EP” featuring her Single “COOOL” as the first part of her trilogy featuring Coco Zhao, which performs in his motherland China as a male and female jazz-singer. Both sides of him you can see in the Shanghai/Amsterdam-themed videoclip.
After Coco Zhao presents a snippit of his Chinese career, Monique Klemann kicks off with “Broken Heart” including her partner Jeroen den Hengst and her daughter Merel den Hengst came on stage as well for one song. After 40 minutes she ends with a chinese (!) version of “COOOL”, which will seduce Asia next year to buy the EP as well.
Besides all tracks of the EP, she played at a full “De Nieuwe Anita” (featuring her sister Suzanne Klemann and Girls Wanna Have Fun-fellows Mieke Stemerdink and Neel van der Elst in the audience) some tracks of her Album “On Patrol” like “The Wild Places”, “Stay” and “Cry Me A River” and other songs that makes the evening just “COOOL”.

On my way to the Heineken Music Hall a Dutch guy smacked his bag in my face and laughed at the start of the travel and at the end a female British Kenny Rogers-fan smacked the door in my face. Does this wonderful wake-up-trick means that I can expect more good things this evening?
Just in time after some train delays I entered the Heineken Music Hall and the Security guy laughed when he checked my bag. Guess he expected more than only an agenda full of crap.
I had a seat at the Black Box, but what does that mean? Just the whole floor where I already was told a HMH-staffmember with a smile as I was a bit worried that it was “a very stupid question” and I told her about my fear.
Than I focus my eyes on the chairs and did I hear a warm welcome from someone of the press? My seat was next to a guy, which make a report for”Lust For Life Magazine” ( http://lflmagazine.nl/concertrecensies/kenny-rogers-in-de-heineken-music-hall ) and a lovely elder couple from Amsterdam are our supportact. The lady told such a funny fanstories about Kenny Rogers that I could not wait to see the biggest living legend in Country Music.
At 8.10 PM (the Next Country Superstar) Charlie Worsham starts his show with a few songs that makes you going to think “he is going to get HUGE” with songs like “You Can’t Break What’s Broken”, “Lawn Chair” and the song that was in the Bones TV series, season nine “Love Don’t Die Easy”.
After his 30 minute show, fans could meet him at the Merchandise stand and The responses where very good although the lady behind me was talking to all his songs that it was just “terrible” from the start to the end.
9.10 PM Kenny Rogers starts his 1,5 hour show with the help of (A grandmother you’ve never seen before) Linda Davis and make a shocking start as a robot. Gladly the way he walked was due to a recent knee-operation, where the wrong knee was replaced according to Stand-up Comedian Kenny Rogers which has a overwhelming appearance as the granddad we always wished to have (gladly I had the luck to have 2 perfect ones) and starts his show with “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town” and told us how Kenneth Rogers becomes Kenny Rogers.
We wish that people like Sheena Easton and Dolly Parton are included at his farewell show “The Gambler’s Last Deal”, but Linda Davis did a very good job with her very expressive appearance as the “alternate”, but Dottie West stays Dottie West. She passed away a few years ago and you see in the eyes of Kenny that she was very special for him. Her voice from the past mixed very well with the incredible live entertainer Rogers and the beautiful “All I Ever Need Is You”, which does not reach a specific tone anymore, but who cares? (some who expected that he is NOT 78 years old).
In case you think the favorite duet is a song with Dolly Parton… it is NOT! It’s Sheena Easton’s “We’ve Got Tonight”.
Besides Lionel Richie’s Lady, a very psychedelical version of “Something’s Burning” from his sixtees period my favorite part of the show (much better than the Original Version). The vibe was so wonderful, that you wish Kenny did not stop singing for another 43 years and make another 75! Albums.
At the final of the show, he sang “You Can’t Make Old Friends” with a beautiful videoclip with fantastic snippets of his incredible career. That was a beautiful flashback and a german fan comments “Kenny Is(t) Cool” and I must admit. She was so right!

During Amsterdam Dance Event, I have the opportunity to meet our “Gypsy Woman” from the nineties popstar Crystal Waters at Dylan Hotel, so I take the train for a speed date.
There was high security around me. While I was waiting for my Magic Moment, I saw DJ’s Hardwell & Afrojack making their fans go wild when they came out a boat and behind the overprotected gate Crystal Waters where already there waiting for her manager and me.
Back in the day, Crystal Waters wrote In 1988 “Gypsy Woman” and “Makin’Happy”. It took 3 years to get her first written songs signed by a Record Company with the support of some DJ’s.
The last 5 years Crystal Waters was at ADE and now she is back at the same time her Single “Believe” is out and brought her friend Kristine W (which released recently her New Single “Out There”) to Holland to show her that ADE is really something to experience as artists like her.
Waters performs at Café Schuim on October 20th, 2016 alongside StoneBridge, Sted-E & Hybrid Heights, Mr.V, Olav Basoski, Alex van Alff, Kid Massive and Paige with the “IAMHOUSE”event. According to Crystal “it was great”.
The next day she did a Songwriterscamp for Spinnin’Records / Ultra Records with Trobi (?), a new kid that was amazing at the studio and she is excited for the final results.
On the third day she did lots of press, like this interview, where she was telling me some details about her upcoming New Album “IAMHOUSE”, which will be a collection of divers house-styles like Commercial House, Deep House, Underground House and Dark House. She wrotes 14 tracks and make the melodies, while producers provide the music featuring StoneBridge, Sted-E, Jesse Saunders and some new folks (nicknamed Next Years Generation). She will pick 9 or 10 tracks, which will set to be released around February 2017.

Pepsipop 1996, during a hot summer I attend a music event with lots of artists including a concert at the end of 3T. I was with my friend Richard and after some hours I saw guys (no girls) just fade out and carry away. They looked more fit than I did. They could not handle the heat and I felt like I was almost knocked out as well, so I warn my schoolmate and walked to the neighbourhood of first aid post, nearby the stage.
TJ, Taryll and Taj Jackson came on stage and perform lots of songs from Brotherhood and if i remember it right also a beautiful cover of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”, but I had just one thing in mind “Can they maybe rap their songs?”.
At the end of the show, I was only surprised that I was stronger than all those muscled guys around us.
Like You could read at this website, I discovered the album “Chapter Three” a few months ago and it seems to be that someone wokes up that the Album needs some promotion and what for kind of promotion.
While I was asleep at monday morning I could meet the guys during their arrival at Schiphol airport. Unfortunately I was not watching my inbox and at the end there was not any other possibility as everyone noticed that the three nephews of Janet & Michael are in Holland for a couple of days.
Friday they had a “Up, Close And Personal”-event at RAI Amsterdam. A celebration of 20 years “Anything”, a song that is created with “Visions Of Love” in mind (Mariah Carey).
This month fans drove mad, when 3T tell that they had a second event the next day in Melkweg “A Celebration Of Chapter III” and I was there.
Fernando Halman present the show and tell the fans about his meeting with the guys, which gave him the family feeling, while he was at their home in 2015. The four asked the audience if they had questions for them and really everyone was taking good care that no one was ignored.
One of them asked about if the guys are doing a second season of “The Jacksons: Next Generation”, the real-life soap was ending up more sensational than they expected and if they do it again, than they wants to produce the TV-serie by themselves as they dislike the sensational way.
Fans get along very well and looks all very happy together. 8 of them gave that morning 800 US Dollars to the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation and that is lots of money, if you know that for 130 euro they enjoyed a soundcheck, a meet and greet and after this event an afterparty in Escape.
Some snippits of songs of the 3rd Album passed by including the story behind and ofcourse 3T performed live a couple of tracks. It seems to be that “Fire” is the ultimate favorite.
The brothers told us about their father Tito Jackson (a very friendly man that I met shortly while I was meeting Anastacia 2 years ago), that he helps them out with a bassline for a song and how Michael Jackson interrupt his rehearsal for a gig and take a plane to help them with a dance routine for “Anything”.
One of the other highlights was “Heaven”, a wedding song about TJ’s relationship with “the older” Frances. The song was not in time finished and he gets emotional while he was singing the lovesong.
It was not only “Chapter III”, but ofcourse some good old songs like “Stuck On You and “Anything” ends the magical moment of lots of 3T fans whom seeing their dreams came true and that reminds me of Pepsipop again. “TJ looks like Janet Jackson and sounds sometimes very “Michael Jacksonish”.
After the almost 2 hour during event, I had a short talking with a clever 3T-fan. What do you do when you meet your idol and are a manager of a beautiful perfume line called “Parfums Du Chateau Versailles”? Try to get some help of TJ!
The audience was very international and hope for everyone that 3T will do identical events in other countries as well!
